FINDING COMFORT IN LITERATURE : COZY READS FOR EVERY SEASON

Welcome to my blog dear readers,

This is the second last blog of the cozy series where I intend to recommend two cozy books per season. While I know two recommendations maybe too few, I would like to keep this blog short and enjoyable. I You all can put in your requests in the comments or whichever other social media you're connected with me by, for more recommendations on a particular season or separate longer recommendation blogs on each of them.
So without any further delay let's jump right in !

Spring

March-May bring Spring, when the Sun warms,

flowers unfurl and a symphony of birdsong fills the air.

My two recommendations for Spring are :

  • The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett:

This classic novel tells the story of Mary Lennox, a young girl who is sent to live with her reclusive uncle in a large house with a mysterious locked garden. As Mary explores the garden and befriends a local boy, she begins to discover the beauty of nature and the power of friendship.

  • A Room with a View by E.M. Forster:

This classic novel tells the story of Lucy Honeychurch, a young woman who is vacationing in Italy with her chaperone. Lucy finds herself torn between two men: Cecil Vyse, a stuffy and proper Englishman, and George Emerson, a free-spirited and unconventional man. As Lucy explores Italy and learns more about herself, she must decide which path to take in life.

Summer

June-August usher in summer, a time when the sun blazes high, days stretch long and lazy, and the scent of barbeque fills the air. It's also the perfect time to curl up with a refreshing and cozy book. Here are two recommendations to add to your summer reading list:

  • The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune:
This enchanting novel follows Linus Baker, a caseworker for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. Linus is tasked with evaluating a mysterious orphanage on a remote island. As Linus spends time with the children and the orphanage's caretaker, he discovers a world of magic, friendship, and acceptance.
  • The Beach Reads by Emily Henry:

This delightful novel is a dual timeline story that follows two best friends, January and Gus, on their annual summer vacations. The story explores the power of friendship, the importance of letting go, and the joy of finding love in unexpected places.

Fall

September-November sweep in fall, a season of crisp air, fiery foliage, and the cozy comfort of pumpkin spice lattes. It's also the perfect time to curl up with a spooky or heart-warming book. Here are a two recommendations for your fall reading list:

  • Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia:
This chilling novel is set in 1950s Mexico and follows Noemi Taboada, a young woman who is sent to a remote part of the country to help her ailing cousin. When Noemi arrives at her cousin's crumbling hacienda, she discovers a dark family secret and a terrifying supernatural presence.

  • Circe by Madeline Miller:

This captivating novel is a reimagining of the Greek myth of Circe, the sorceress daughter of the sun god Helios. The novel follows Circe's exile to a deserted island and her encounters with mythical creatures such as Odysseus and the Minotaur.

Winter

December-February brings winter, a season of frosted windows, crackling fires, and the comforting aroma of hot cocoa. It's the ideal time to snuggle up with a uplifting mystery or a fantastical adventure. Here are two cozy book recommendations for your winter wonderland:

  • A Winter's Garden by Kristin Hannah:
This moving novel that tells the story of two families in Alaska who are bound together by tragedy and resilience. The novel explores themes of friendship, love, and the power of hope in the face of adversity.

  • Sparkling Cyanide by Agatha Christie:
This classic Agatha Christie novel takes place during a New Year's Eve celebration where a group of friends gather at a country house. When one of the guests is poisoned with cyanide, it's up to the ingenious Miss Marple to unravel the mystery and identify the killer.
